I realized that Neal Stephenson must have taken inspiration from a number of elements of Ender's Game when he was writing The Diamond Age - for example, the similarities between the computer-created immersion game that Ender plays and the 'Primer' are very strong (no subversion in Ender's world though).

Card predicts the importance of the global network very accurately - his 'nets' build off the newsgroup concept, but the idea of anonymous (or not) kids (or "ordinary" adults) influencing the world through their writing is here already, in a slightly different form, with the explosion of weblogs.
